The head mounted display comes in many different forms. Some are compact and simple whereas others are large and more complicated pieces of machinery. The form that the head mounted display takes is often related to its purpose and there are many of those.
Many times in helicopters or other aviation devices, the head mounted display, otherwise known as the HMD is integrated into the design of the cockpit. These are used as night vision devices, protective visors, but they may also display other symbols.
HMDs are used in the military and police forces as well for similar purposes such as night vision, symbol display, mapping and so on. There are many different uses for these devices in such forces.
Engineers and scientists use HMDs when they are working with various experiments to see different views and angles of complex systems. They can also be used during operations that are highly complicated. They improve vision and often give views that would not normally be accessed by the regular human eye.
Gamers also use these display systems. They are used to create a virtual reality where they are inside the game or another sphere. They act according to what they see on the screen. This has become increasingly popular amongst gamers.
Individuals involved in such sports as race car driving may use an HMD because of the ability to display and update maps at any given location. It gives them more accuracy than their own eye and can offer the driver information as they are driving the course.
While there may be many more uses for the head mounted display, these are the most common. They are making advancements in this field everyday to make them more practical and useful, not to mention more obtainable for the average person in the particular field that the user is involved in.
